We would like to give special thanks to our awesome local Samia Ausaf for sharing her D.C. with us.
It’s not everyday that you have the chance to lay down the law and that too in D.C., but given that we have an awesome trusted local giving us some great tips, we will take a shot at it.
Check these places out!
Amazing ramen place with a cool alternative vibe. The only drawback is that they don’t take reservations and the wait can be over an hour on most nights. Most people wait by drinking a couple of beers at the Ugly Pug downstairs.

Fantastic coffee shop with great food and decent coffee in Adams Morgan. Tryst is a great place for catching up on work, casual reading, or chatting with friends. It can be insanely busy during brunch hours on the weekends, and you seat yourself, which can be a bit like Social Darwinism. Make sure to try the corn bread waffle bites with jalapeno butter!
The best comfort food in DC. Most food is locally-sourced and they have tons of vegetarian/vegan options. However, make sure to get reservations in advance!
My personal favorite, Estadio, has the best menu in DC. Mostly a tapas restaurant with a warm ambiance. The restaurant is always buzzing but if you don’t get a table, there are many other food and drink options up and down the 14th street corridor.
You can’t leave DC without trying Ethiopian food. I recently discovered Lalibela in Logan Circle and have been back here multiple times. The restaurant is very casual and laid back but they have some of the best Ethiopian food in DC.
A cozy speakeasy on 14th street, The Gibson is located in the heart of the busy U street area. They have a great selection of delicious cocktails and you can also ask the bartender for personalized drinks. Look out for the unnamed door next to Marvin’s restaurant on 14th street.
U Street Music Hall
Best place in DC to hear dance music. They consistently bring in great DJs and have a stellar sound system. But U Hall is not for the faint hearted. Think dark dingy basement. However, if you’re looking for swanky bars there are many options in the neighborhood.

The POV at the W Hotel
The best place to get panoramic views of DCs most popular buildings (the Washington Monument, the White House and the like). The rooftop views make up for the overpriced drinks.
